Trent Parke - Motel, Pacific Highway

I'm a big fan of colour in photography. It evokes more emotions. A black and white image is powerful if it is done well - the lack of colour provides a more austere and less distracted look - but when it comes to the exaltation of an image, it is always colour that does it for me. It has more depth and stimulus.

Light and the effects of daylighting are central in a lot of Trent Parke's works, but it wasn't until recently that he started using colour. Influence of this can perhaps be attributed to his wife and partner photographer Narelle Autio, whose work is extremely rich and deep in colour.

This dreamy work has won Trent Parke the ABN Amro Emerging Artist's award. It will be on display, amongst other awarded works, at the Aurora Place (ABN Amro Tower) foyer until September 29.
